Public input sought on 5 global food standards

Stakeholders
are invited to submit comments from Sept. 4 to Nov. 23 on five
international food product standards currently under review, a crucial
window that will shape the country’s official position on the global
guidelines. 



In a notice, Department of Trade and Industry-Bureau of Philippine
Standards Director Neil Catajay said that developed by International
Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 34, ISO/DIS
25367 provides rules for measuring organic compounds using proton
quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance. 



Catajay said the upcoming ISO/CD 25815 standard provides guidelines for preventing, detecting, and treating malnutrition.  



This development joins other established food standards, such as ISO
1871:2009 for measuring nitrogen using the Kjeldahl method and ISO
26642:2010 for determining the glycemic index of food and recommendation
for food classification, he said.



Further, Catajay said ISO 23394:2006 establishes specifications and testing procedures for dried oleaster fruits.



“As participating member (P-member) to ISO/TC 34 Food Products, the
Philippines is accorded 1 (one) vote on all standards and documents
being circulated by ISO/TC 34,” he added. 



Catajay requested that all stakeholders submit their comments using the
official template via email bps@dti.gov.ph on or before the specified
deadline.
